MILESTONES, Page 78
DIED. Carl Furillo, 66, rightfielder for the Brooklyn Dodgers
during the team's glory days; of an apparent heart attack; at home
in Stony Creek Mills, Pa. The "Reading Rifle" spent his entire
career with the Dodgers, from 1946 to 1960. His .344 batting
average led the National League in 1953, and he helped the Bums
become the only Brooklyn team to win the World Series, in 1955.
